You came to me
In black and white
In shades of gray
Shadows and light
A wish I had willed
Had finally taken flight
In a speck on a screen
You were there
You were seen
No pink
yet
No blue
Only truth
Only you
A promise
A future
Pure love in my womb
Then…
You were a girl
A little girl, Oh a girl
Every shade of that color PINK
Flooded my world
I bought you the pretty things
Every trinket I could find
All the glimmer and shimmer
The pastel
The delicate
The feminine kind
You were born
Chubby and loud
Perfect and mine
You may have been a girl
But you were complicated
And divine
Every age
A new thought
With new friends
New questions
At fourteen
You were shedding your skin
Learning your lessons
You are finally arriving
You are blooming
And choosing
Your truth is your freedom
Your confidence is booming
My ignorance toward gender
I look back and remember
Confining you within that pale color
It did you no justice
Gave you little splendor
You are a prism of light
Your rainbow is forever
No Pink
Now
No blue
Only truth
Only you
A promise
A future
Pure love from my womb
