No Fate

A poem about the current state of life and the future.

Make not light of what seems so wrong

Listen to the children cry

Where were your thoughts when you missed the gong

The bells echoed throughout the sky

Their screams unheard

Their purpose denied

Most hear nary a word

Already dead inside

Belief in something better than what we gave

To feel a purpose that matters becomes rare

See one's reason more than a blindfolded march to the grave

To dream of mattering enough that others might care

We leave not the glory of a wonderful life ahead

Not rich lands, peace, or even tranquility that abounds

Torture and torment awaited the young instead

To their screams, the dead, shielded from the sounds

We left no fate but what we chose for the ones that follow

Indignity and suffering await them at our end

For that's the reward of lives so hollow

Our young suffering a fate not wished on a friend

We left no fate

Not one that was good

Only one filled with hate

No chance to change it, even if we would

sad poetry

Wow - this is so deep and profound and heartbreakingly sad. I worry about this too. What legacy are we leaving behind. I feel the ache in this poem so much. Congratulations on top story - well deserved!

You always been honest on your feelings on things. You always been constantly You. Sending you prayers of comfort. God is the greatest comforter when you focus on him not the problem. We can be stubborn with our fate in God when we won't the road of life to go in our direction but put us on detour to learn something before we get to our destination. 🙏🏼💗

  • The single calling common to all: to care for one another. How oft do we turn a deaf ear (& despise those who hear)?

This is a thoughtful piece. It feels like a gentle reminder to pay attention to what we leave behind. Sad, but there’s something real and honest in it. Thanks for sharing your words. ❤
