Nighttime Walks

This is time that belongs to no one but me

I’ve always preferred the city at night

When crowds have all but disappeared

and the noise of the city has quieted to a whisper

When the only light comes from the moon and the stars.

Night brings a feeling of peace

What I love most about nighttime is the quiet

The way the world seems to just stop

There are no responsibilities

No expectations

Just me, the sky, and the ground beneath my feet

I could walk for hours in the dark

Spend the entire night alone with my thoughts

I don’t have to be anyone but myself at night

This time I’ve spent walking around

Is time that belongs to no one but me

Once the sun has set I feel free,

if only for a little while.

It’s time I spend doing things just for me

When the rest of the world is sleeping,

Is when I feel the most awake

About the Creator

E. C. Mira

I’m a poet at heart, always chasing the quiet moments and turning them into words. Most of what I write is poetry, but every now and then inspiration pulls me in new directions.
