Nights on the Canal Walk

The lights shine bright,

Alone at night,

On the Kanawha Canal,

Enjoy it I shall,

Boats on the James,

This night is not the same,

The fall line is near,

The noise of the crowd,

I would like to hear,

Trains go by,

On the trestle so high,

Walking down the street,

The night so young,

The music sweet,

This is Richmond,

Virginia's heartbeat,

The River City comes alive,

Almost always,

Right after five,

The city is illuminated,

Lights so bright,

They shine on the canal,

All through the night,

They make the city pretty,

Seeming so ritzy,

Here in the city of Richmond.
