New Love

An Abecedarian Poem

By Katherine DockeryPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

As the sun rises I cozy down in reflexion

Before, the prior night stole my thoughts

Causing my person to shutter

Depression was never an option

Ever since I met you…

Forever you…My forever you.

Given the chance, I’d do it all again

Has it only been a day?

Impatiently I seek to see you

Just another second, another kiss

Killing my kindness with selfishness

Letting myself be willed into wanting you more

My favorite drug of choice; you – the only one for me

Nicely did our hands fold together

Oh, the way our cheeks met

Pleasing our senses of warmth from each other

Quietly teasing our lips with our words

Resting gently upon your shoulder, I beg the night to stay

Stay just a few moments longer…steal one more moment

Trying to hold on, I snuggle deeper into you

Until we have to say goodbye.

Victoriously, the suns light kisses the dark

Wishing we didn’t have to say goodbye

X-rays of sunlight separate us from our embrace

Yesterday will always be a perfect memory

Zoom to the future where we can be together again.
