Never Should Have

You sauntered into my life

And blew past my walls,

You gained my trust

And discovered my weaknesses,

I grew dependant upon you,

You became my whole world,

My devotion to you

Rivaled that of saints,

But then you disappeared.

I don’t hear your taunting voice,

Your face is fading to a blurr,

Your touch is growing ever colder,

Your scent is dulling into stale air,

When once before,

Your voice would serenade me with sweet words,

Your face was imprinted on my mind,

Your touch would make my body quake with pleasure,

Your intoxicating scent ensnared my senses,

And your strong arms held me when I was weak,

But now my body falls and you're not here.

You left me alone,

Bleeding and broken,

You took my love

And broke my soul,

You come around

And it’s like salt on my wounds,

I still love you dearly,

But you moved onto another,

So I’ll lock the door

And hide my pain,

I never should have let you in.
