I wish I could say

He will sit or stand

At my command

But he won’t

My wee man.

***

I wish I could say

He does as he’s told to

Only eats what he should do

And doesn’t drink from the loo

But I can’t

My wee man.

***

I wish I could say

He never begs at the table

Nor tries to lick my plate

Or occasionally jumps our gate

But he does

My wee man.

***

From the first day

We brought him home

Our little bundle of fluff,

And he leaped up on me

So happy and so trusting

I fell in love

With our wee man.

***

I wish I could say

I don’t fall for his eyes

With their sweet puppy dog pleading

As he lies on his side

Demanding more tickling

But I can’t.

***

I’m totally in love

With this little puppy

Who does what he wants

And owns my heart

From his little black nose

To his excitedly wagging tail.

***

He makes me smile

With his expressive eyes

And ever licking tongue

And unconditional love

My wee man.

***

There is no love like the unconditional love of a puppy!
