My Sweet Girl
The unbreakable bond between mother and child
Ever since the first time I saw you, my heart melted.
Your palms are too small for my own,
and your little face is so heartwarming.
One look at your face, and my life knows its purpose.
My heart jumps, knowing that we will have an adventurous life together—
full of ups and downs, twists and turns,
and side by side for everything.
Months I have been waiting for your arrival,
to be graced with your presence.
Hours I spent, through cries and pains,
awaiting the hour my sweet girl would live.
Every pain or moment of silence,
my heart pauses, waiting to be assured of your breath.
I would do it all again.
For years, I get to watch you grow.
Any pain in the world is worth but a minute of your time.
One day, I will teach you to ride a bike,
and how to jump rope.
Your life so far has been short,
but love has already filled the whole capacity of my heart.
I know you will still be my best friend when you are grown.
Our love shall always reach each other—
to the moon, back, and even further.
No matter what the future may hold,
you can always depend upon our unbreakable bond.
Your cries, coming as annoying to others,
are the same sound that helps me sleep through the night.
You are the key to my affection.
You are the thing that wakes my heart in the morning.
You are the reason I rise.
Your touch shocks my soul
in a way people would kill for.
The feeling of your embrace warms my body,
smearing love throughout my soul.
I do hard things for you,
and push myself to be better
because you, little one, deserve the world.
Your existence questions
that any other could love you more than me.
I promise that every pain you feel,
you can brush off at my shoulder.
Every cruel word said,
I will settle with a lullaby.
Every wound, I will be there to care for.
Every picture day, I will be there to do your hair.
Every time you fall, I will be there to pick you up.
Even when you push me away,
I will always wait to hold you in my arms.
Any pain caused by your words
would never be matched to the pain of not sharing this life with you.
Anything you need, I will take care of.
I would lay down my life for you,
with no regrets, and expect nothing in return.
I would live for you,
enjoying every day as it passes,
and being grateful for you,
sitting here with me.
Because the ability to see your smile
and hear your laugh is worth anything.
Sleep in peace, dear,
knowing your mother is beside you,
to comfort you at a single cry.
In years to come,
I will look back and thank God
for your beautiful presence.
