My Summer Rain

the lights are blinding

Was it you in the throng of

onlookers-

Your smile wide, eyes as bright

as they are still burned

into the edges of memory?

No not the edges, if I'm honest-

firmly implanted.

The lyrics pulsing into the wide

space between us:

"Doesn't matter what I do now,

Doesn't matter what I say".

You below, at the railing's edge,

obliviously happy.

Me above, socked feet dancing,

my gaze landing abruptly,

frozen on a profile I once knew

so well I could trace it with my fingertips.

Was it you?

Or was it another fragmented

shard of my broken heart

come back from the dead;

A reminder that nothing has

ever felt the same since

the day I left.

"Somewhere in my heart, I'm always dancing with you in the summer rain..."
