My poems do not rhyme

a confession

By Sarah LennPublished about a year ago 1 min read
Top Story - August 2024

My poems do not rhyme

They cascade in a tumble of unkempt words

Thoughts tangle and can not be

Unraveled and sorted so easily

Into neatly restrained lines of prose

---

My poems do not rhyme

They sting the senses

Confuse and seep through the spaces

Between mind and emotion

That elusive place where reason

Holds no sway

---

My poems do not rhyme

I’m unable to capture the eloquence

Of my inner turbulence

In iambic pentameter or

A perfectly worded refrain

---

My poems do not rhyme

They spill and spread in

Dark stricken splotches across a page

I care not if you find them beautiful

Only that they ease the pressure

Of that which I can no longer dare

To contain

Stream of Consciousness

Hello, there! I would like to invite you to check and share your thoughts on my latest article entitled "God Ra vs. God AMON." In this piece, I study one of the most captivating mythological themes - the conflict and the interaction between two powerful gods of ancient Egyptian pantheon. If you are a fan of mythology, fiction or just enjoy a good story, I believe this article will attract your interest. I would like to hear any reviews, ideas or comments! • Wow! Well deserved Top Story! I love your poem… despite also liking rhythm & rhyme. 🥹 I have however, grown to enjoy free verse & this is wonderful… especially the conclusion! ✅

Very powerfully done! The repeated line took on the resonance of an anthem!

I liked the spirit of your poem. Who ever said poems need to rhyme? They are a pouring out of all that you have cogitated on, expressed for others. It needs no form. Rhymes are nice but never essential and can sometimes detract, I think.

I have always felt strongly that poetry does not have to rhyme to be absolutely captivating. This is a wonderful poem.
