A blank wall

remnants of us

It takes my breath away sometimes

our fall from closeness

your words once flowing in

familiar daily conversation

now land in disjointed pieces

seemingly on whim

across random spaces of time

cast by unseen dice

to a game that keeps changing

~~~
I try to catch those
flickers of light in my outstretched hand
like fireflies passing in the night
my hands open empty, scarred
I place another bandage
hoping to do better next time
life continues its ebb and flow
awareness of you fading
in and out
~~~

Return to the status quo

as you so aptly labeled it

long ago

the remnants of us, reframed

a mismatched decoupage on a blank wall

flickers of a discarded life

once familiar, estranged now

Is it only my breath that catches

with the ache of it all?

~~~
You are like a string tied
around my finger
a constant reminder of our
frayed connection
One day it will be better
I will stop writing of you
and forget why I ever tried
to catch a wild, bright thing
or worse still,
to fall in love with one
heartbreak
    This, to me, captures the space between two lost souls wanting, not giving. Very intense. You, btw, are my featured poet on my profile page this week. Let me know if your reads pick up.
