My Phoenix

A poem

She sleeps inside me,

waiting to awaken,

her beauty and strength reside within me,

the power and freedom

she offers me,

promises that

together we

could be anything we wanted to be.

The light of her fire

keeps me going,

right to the wire,

staying strong until I finish,

this race, this life, her dire

warning keeps me safe and out of trouble.

Her music flows through my soul,

waiting to be freed,

to fill the air, the world,

with its beautiful sound.

Together we wait,

for our time to shine,

our countdown begins, ten, nine, eight,

until we cross the line.

And she rises up inside me,

together we spread our wings,

and show the world that we,

the one who clings

to life and magic, will make them see,

We are one,

I am not who they think I am,

I am free,

flying far and wide,

more than ready,

to take my place in this world.

No more snobby remarks,

no more put downs,

no more red marks

on the paper that is my life.

No more screw-ups,

no more indecision.

This is who I want to be

What I want to do with my life.

When she rises up inside me,

together we spread our wings,

and make the world see,

we are the one who clings,

to dreams of life and magic.

No more fall downs,

no more bleeding.

No more crying,

no more leaving.

No more let downs,

no more innocence,

no more playing nice,

the claws are out now,

hurt one time too many.

As the sleeping phoenix within me awakens,

together we spread our wings,

to show the world,

and make them see,

who we are, we,

are
