I kept searching
For a saviour in
All the wrong places
One best friend’s hug
And the next one’s words
One boy’s smile and
The next one’s gaze
❀
All along, my lifeline
Was right in front of me
Making me sandwiches
Each afternoon
Opening up my curtains
Urging me out of bed
Placing a dog lead in my hand
So I remembered the happiness
Playing with his furry ears
Could give me
❀
All along, my salvation
Was right beside me
Wrapping my
Internal wounds
With concern like
She’d once placed
Band-Aid’s on my
External ones
Kissing me goodnight
Like others bid me
Farewell
❀
Never leaving
Always staying
❀
My restoration
Wasn’t a long letter
Or a cliff face confession
It was a hand holding mine
After everyone else was asleep
It was
I love you
I love you, I love you
Said as many times as it took
Before I was rational enough
To believe it
❀
I didn’t find my
Guardian Angel
In the form of friendship
Or romantic love
I found it in
My mother’s laugh
And her unconditional
Compassion
❀❀❀❀❀

I loved this, I didn’t have a mom but this makes me wish I did!!
I love this Poppy! There's nothing quite like having a good mum!
Thanks for this beautiful poem… love is patient, love is kind.
The relationship with your mum is so foundational to everything else isn't it!
Awww, this was just so sweet and lovely!
“I found it in My mother’s laugh” Such a beautiful and relatable line.
To have such a relationship with your mother is truly a wonderful thing. What a blessing.
