My Inner Child

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 months ago 2 min read

Verse 1:

I woke up this morning, feeling a bit nostalgic,

Thought I’d take a journey back to when life felt like magic.

With crayons and some laughter, I opened up the door,

But the little asshole inside me had a whole lot in store.

Pre-Chorus:

I tried to play in sunshine, let the wildness flow,

But the moment I relaxed, oh, that inner child put on a show.

With a grin and a giggle, she pulled out all the tricks,

And just when I was ready, she threw a little fit.

Chorus:

I tried to embrace my inner child today,

But that little asshole tried to bite me, in the strangest way.

With laughter turning wild, and chaos in the play,

I guess I wasn’t ready for the games she wanted to play.

Verse 2:

We climbed a tree of memories, swinging on a dream,

Chasing after fireflies, lost in the glee.

But then she pulled a fast one, turned the fun to feuds,

With a flick of her fingers, she turned sweet joy to rude.

Pre-Chorus:

I wanted to feel free, to dance beneath the stars,

But the kid inside just giggled while she threw me off my guard.

With a sneaky little jab and a mischievous grin,

I found myself laughing at the chaos deep within.

Chorus:

I tried to embrace my inner child today,

But that little asshole tried to bite me, in the strangest way.

With laughter turning wild, and chaos in the play,

I guess I wasn’t ready for the games she wanted to play.

Verse 3:

So I’ll put on my armor, and let the fun begin,

I’ll embrace the wild spirit, let the inner child win.

With crayons and some laughter, we’ll make a vibrant mess,

I’m done fighting the chaos; I’ll just laugh and say yes!

Chorus:

I tried to embrace my inner child today,

And that little asshole tried to bite me, in the silliest way.

With laughter turning wild, and chaos in the play,

I guess loving my inner child is a wild ballet.

I tried to embrace my inner child today,

And that little asshole tried to bite me.
