My Husband Is A Poet
Don't tell him as he doesn't know it!
As I sat down to write tonight, I was telling my husband that I needed to write and didn't much feel like it. I was surprised as I have 9 days left of this month. If I am already running out of steam, what will happen to my writing for the next week?
As you may or may not know, I am writing a couple of poems/rhymes a day to keep interest in my Poem a Day in February (PaDiF) project. I have had four contests in February, every year now for eight years.
He said, "What do you need? A topic?" I said that would help. I then told him this contest is to write about what we are passionate about. I started to list what I had already written about. Remembering to include how I wrote about him.
He then said, "What about birds?" And so it started. I would write and read to him what I had written. Then he would help me rhyme, or give me another sentence!
This is what we wrote:
A little passion rhyme from John and I:
We have birds out our window
Some don't stop, just go
Others stay to play and eat
We take a seat
Just to watch for action so
There are turkeys below
and woodpeckers you know
Well, one we call Woody, he's a sight
Then we have finch and sparrow
Chickadee and junco
Sometimes they fight
when it turns daylight
We can't forget the squirrel
they will twirl and whirl
It is fun having a bird feeder
I bet they wish there was a heater
A passion of mine, who knew
I didn't have a clue.

John only likes rhyme, in a similar way to how he just likes paintings of scenery/pictures. No modern art. He says poetry is like modern art. A child could do that. Of course, he is wrong about that! On both counts.
He rhymes every day and has no trouble coming up with rhyming words as he listed 5-10 rhyming words at one time for this rhyme. He will make up words too, which can be very funny.
He keeps me laughing all of the time with his rhyme. I truly believe he is a poet. He picks out the very best cards that I can not throw, so I have many saved from 2000, when we were first an item.
His payment is another of his favorite things. A DQ gift card for being a judge for rhyme and for helping me stay on track with my part of the project!
