My Green Eyes by Donna Magnani-Convertino
Ten thousand trees ten thousand more Not caught my eyes til furthermore Blanket of green, blades of grass Life slips us by while we are crass
I used to look for colors, red yellow and pink
When going on my daily walk, as a natural instinct
I never liked the color green, it was walls in our home Our fake leather couch, where I’d often feel alone. Why’d my mom like green so much, it’s boring had no life. I didn’t see the beauty in it, actually gave me secret strife
Life’s about bright colors and so this poor girl thought
A color wasted where dogs would piss and noses shot out snot
How could she love this color, what the heck did she know?
Help me Lord, if she buys another stuffed green pillow
50 years has passed, now I seek it out, the color we call green
The Greatest gift it’s everywhere, waiting to be seen
Just look, and smell the morning dew Breathe in breathe out it’s there for you
I get it now, God’s crafty ways, He made it oh so clear.
Mankind is such a simple thing, we complicate this idea’r
Green gives us commonality, it give us our life’s breath,
To love the pink and blue is GREAT but green is where it’s at.
Our world’s in mighty disarray, our leaders are not God
Unless we take it back to Him our lives will go un-nod
But why is color so vi-tal, when choosing this or that?
It’s in plain site, can we all agree that green is where it’s at?
Our common need for us to breathe, it comes from color green
Green turns the bad and makes it right and allows us to be serene
I used to look for colors -red, yellow, pink and blue,
but ignoring this great color green, is why we have no clue
I get it now our common de-nom, is breathing life and love
We go about our silly ways sans gratitude from above.
Now when I take my daily walk I see it all so clear
I take in all the colors but green’s the new frontier
God took this subtle hue, so basic we’ve been blind
It’s our common bond to breathe and make our world to bind.
Now I look for green, best with the morning dew,
I seek to look for common things, in our common hue.
Now when I’m asked my favorite color, I say what makes us Same
If we focus on the color (we share) we won’t be quick to blame.
For it’s seeing our common trait in-life in-that we need O2
We’ll be quick to help each other to share and get on through
Ten thousand trees ten thousand more
You’ve caught my eye, forever more
