My Friends
My experience when I transitioned from primary to secondary school.
My old friends are so goofy and good
My new friends are trendy and cool
My old friends making me smile when I’m sad
My new friends pressure me to smile for the camera
My old friends and I have no photographs
My new friends and I have too many.
My old friends and I have so many memories
My new friends and I have so very little
When people ask me who I will choose,
I say
Of course
My old friends
But without effort,
Friendships fall apart
People drift.
And so now I have no one.
My new friends are fake friends
My old friends are strangers.
So whose shoulder am I supposed to rest my head on?
My own, I suppose
But under pressure,
Even the toughest nut can crack.
My shoulders slouch with burden.
Feeling atlas
Carrying the weight of the sky
With no one to carry it with.
I wish I could turn back time
To the times
Where we laughed without caring how we appeared
Where we could be ourselves
And still love one another.
Where we never thought of a future without each other
And split
And fall apart
Why
Why
Why
Why must this happen
Why can’t we be friends
Why must we be pulled apart
Why can’t I be friends with you
I loved our conversations
They were true and long
But now they’re awkward and short
As if they’re going through puberty like we are.
So burry myself in homework and exams
Overwhelmed by expectation and failure
No

To
Turn
To
As
I
I
