My Four-Point Star

A Poem

I was a world away from you,

I didn't know how lonely you'd get without me sharing the same time with you.

I tried to stay because deep down, I knew,

I knew that leaving your world would mean you'd leave ours.

No walk, car ride, or flight would change the events of that day.

I left roses at your grave a year later,

the sea containing your ashes being your casket.

You always wanted to be a mermaid,

instead you become the goddess of the sea. How fitting for the most pure-hearted.

I look for you in the smallest areas,

sunsets when they're more pink, the moon at its brightest at night, seeing parts of you in my friends, and knowing you are a star amongst the clouds.

And you'll be a star amongst the people.

Your words etched in my heart forever.

I live in your memory,

you are still alive.

Your story still gets told,

my four-point star.
