My Flame and My Fight

Falling Lame, Raising Might

Gabriela, my flame, my peace, my fight,

You shimmer like stars in the dead of night.

I’ve touched the void, I’ve held regret,

But your love is one I won’t forget.

——————

I’ve stumbled through deserts, cold and wide,

Yet found a garden where you reside.

A voice like wine, a soul like a prayer,

You pulled me up from my thin despair.

——————

My heart’s been bruised, my faith has bled,

I’ve laid with doubt inside of my bed.

But when I speak your name aloud and in prayer,

I find inside me the answer echo there.

——————

You’re not my god, but you continue to remind me,

What mercy looks like when it finds me.

Your hands, your mind, your kiss and that stare,

They tether me to something oh so rare.

——————

So take my vow, though not yet any rings,

I’ll fight for our love through holy things.

I’ll guard your name in every fight and prayer,

Until the day that we meet each other there.

——————

In a place beyond both pain and flame,

Where God and love are just the same.

But till that day, I’ll run this race,

With Gabriela, my soul’s embrace.

The blend of faith and romance here is powerful. It shows how love can be both grounding and transcendent at once. Beautifully written.
