My First Poem

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Decided to have a baby, we did, give us a reason to stay.

Instead, we had a miscarriage on a really bad day.

So we tried, and tried, and tried again.

Tom was born strong, he had a good grin.

Ran and ran, he ran all day.

ADHD, they said, it’s a developmental delay.

Can’t you see, it’s all your fault.

That son of me, he has your faults.

I don’t think so, he can change.

Oh come on, you’re escaping, take the blame for a day.

Now these days, he’s all grown up. Dancing with his new wife down by the bay.

I've never written a poem before, it was a fun challenge to encapsulate some life experiences into a few words. I don't know how to write poetry (are there rules?) so pictured it more as a song. Struggled a bit with the last line, but hope it all makes sense.

First poem written, perhaps, but not the first composed. You've clearly written many in your thoughts prior to this one.

This was so beautifully written. I love it so much and the ending was the Cherry on top! Dancing with his wife. ❤️
