My Fear Of Love

Due to my fears, I have given up on love

As I’ve been terribly unlucky in love

I’ve given up and closed off my heart,

I give it a try once every decade or so

But nothing ever lasts and we part.

***

It is this very sad track record of mine

That has caused me to fear even trying,

Although I haven’t discovered as yet

Is it my fault or due to my partners lying?

***

I hear the ‘I love you’ loud and clear

Usually early in the relationship,

Too early when I think about it

Then months later they’ve skipped.

***

I obviously have terrible taste in men

Choosing those that are terribly needy,

They want 100% of my attention

And get jealous equally as easy.

***

I’ve built a wall of fear around my heart

And given up on love, preferring solitude,

I’m over all the grief and mourning

I’m happier alone without their attitude.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
