My Favorite Island

December 2022

By Danielle MariePublished 3 years ago 1 min read

don’t ask me my favorite island

Twenty-one countries

three continents

and although America

may no longer be great

it is the place i was born in

don't ask me my favorite island

countless cities

sleepless nights

and although we are shackled

by capitalism

i still believe

freedom exists in our hearts

don't ask me my favorite island

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Resident of Hawai'i

i took a ride down by Umauma Falls

while my father works out on

Neville Island

i said i would write about my mother

growing up along the Monongahela

if Germany rebuilt The Wall

even it would be an island

i have built a home in Hawai'i

an immigrant in the twenty-first

century

Mele Kalikimaka and

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou

But i'm taking a trip to

the Maldives in Spring

don't ask me my favorite island
