My Ancestors

I am you

By T. CoxPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I have so many colors running through me

The flags of my ancestors are many

I am a melting pot of different colors

The flags fly freely in my heart and the blood runs deep in my veins

I wish I could travel back to see them all

Each offering a piece of knowledge and a wish for me

their future to carry on their genes to do what they could not

The flag of Nigeria

The flag of Jamaica

The flag of Spain

The flag of the now free and home of the brave

Just to name a few

All of these colors are me

It is more than skin deep and the color of my skin

that you see I have the blood of so many that came before me

I am so unique there is only one me

My colors from the flags some the same most different allows me to offer

them to my offspring

My brothers and sisters we share so much but we are as unique as

two strangers and this is where the colors mean so much

a bond so strong a friend to the end

The green

The blue

The red

The yellow

The white too

This make up is my chemistry

The blue is for the ocean they had to cross

The yellow is for the sun that beat on their backs

The red is the blood that runs through our veins

The green is the grass they first saw as slaves

The white is for some that were friends and foes

This is my chemistry and the ancestors that make up ME!
