Mustard Blooms

Ode to California spring

By Seema PatelPublished 10 months ago 1 min read

Springtime in California

The canyons are yellow

with blooming mustard.

What a treat to

stand at a vantage point

and marvel at the

ephemeral vista!

The happiness it creates

is hard to explain.

Honeybees hovering around,

creating a buzzing sound.

Turkey vultures circle

above the yellow splendor

The blue ocean on the horizon—

the mustard-splashed

landscape conjures

imagination,

as if a painter

spilled the yellow color can

or is it turmeric?

But for a nature lover,

it’s worth more than

the fabled gold.

My soul is soothed

by the mustard blooms.
