"Muhibbi’s Poem to Hürrem Sultan's " (Suleiman the Magnificent)

From one of Suleyman’s letters to Roxolana

Muhibbi" was the pen name used by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent for his poetry. He was a renowned Ottoman ruler and poet, and "Muhibbi" translates to "lover" or "friend". Under his pen name, Muhibbi, he composed this poem for Roxolana:

"Throne of my lonely heart, my beloved, my sultan.

My wealth, my love, my moonlight, my only one.

The most beautiful among the beautiful…

My springtime, my merry-faced love, my daytime, my sweetheart,

My rose, my joy, my heart’s delight, my light-heartedness, my friend.

My confidante, my closest companion, my very existence, my sultan.

The one who makes me forget all sorrows…

My beloved who brings joy to my life.

My Istanbul, my Karaman, my land of Rum,

My Baghdad and Khorasan, my woman of beauty and grace.

My Egypt, my oasis, my paradise, my world.

My one and only… I love you, I worship you."

Suleiman compares Hürrem to entire regions of his empire—Baghdad, Khorasan, Karaman, Egypt—revealing how completely she possessed his heart and mind. He didn't just love her; he saw her as the embodiment of everything he ruled and everything he longed for.
