Dedicated to my dear friend and 11th grade biology teacher.

She said she was a dragon

With fire in her eyes.

She taught us life’s lessons

And never told us lies.

She breathed out little teachings,

Not flames of ruby red.

She didn’t breath the fire,

Instead it sprouted from her head.

A mane that licked her cheeks and ears

And trailed down her neck.

It grew as much as she did

On the toughest trail to trek.

She had been a mother

Many many times before,

But her students loved her also,

But perhaps not more.

She guarded all her eggs

With her knowledge of the world,

And as her tiny dragons hatched

She’d watch their wings unfurl.

We’d fly away and leave her

With the young ones in the nest.

It was her fighting spirit

That helped us to perfect our steps.

But no matter where we flew to

She would always find out

The deeds that we accomplished.

Though she never had a doubt.

So I will tell my children,

And they will listen eager,

Waiting to hear the tales

Of our dragon, Mrs...
