Back home

I feel like home is a cage that I cannot break out of,

an obstacle course of objects that I am always tripping over,

a trap waiting to snap shut,

trenches that are filled with fear and amputated limbs.

I feel like home is where I go to hide from the world,

from myself,

from all the things I should have accomplished in life,

and from all the disappointments discovered next door.

I feel like home is where I fantasize about who I wish I was,

where I come up short in all aspects of life,

and the place I sneak to for another drink.

Lately, I cannot seem to think straight it seems...

The raw honesty? Unshakable. If home had a voice, what would it say—"Welcome back" or "Why are you still here?"
