Moving On From Graduation Day
From The Workshop Collection

“What makes me feel confident is,”
Denise confronted the coach’s quiz
Am I good at this
No one boos nor do they hiss
I handle my duty
Honest and truly
Hit my spot
Appearing hot
Flashing athletic attire
For all to admire
Prowling Chesire
Feline wanting hire
I am very nice
Making the social sacrifice
Throwing the competitive dice
Knowing I will pass
Getting a diploma medaling my youthful task
I am destined to turn a letter
Watching the television, saying Vanna I am better
Practicing in the dorm
Using my floor exercise as a platform
Preparing in the locker room
Be out soon
Until good old Tommy came along
Orchestra strikes up an eerie song
Swinging his fencing spear
Taking me down without a tear
Now what should I do
Go off and swim laps in the pool
All alone
Waiting for the ringing phone
Might I star in a fatal game
Where no one knows my name
Unless the guy was in a drunken state
Upset about his Friday Nite date
And then my performance came on
Making him ever so calm
Already inebriated and bombed
I let out a scream
He sipped some more sudsy cream
Remembering why I did not make the team
Ending up credited, killed off when a psycho fiend
Walked around with his metal sword
Wanting someone gored
At the time it was assured
I would not be poor
Instead, a tempted apple bitter to the core
They casted me
What did they want to see?
A doll, still a child
Needing to get wild
Gold was mine
If I took the time
To learn from this poetic rhyme
Read online
Not worrying about a lucky shot
With a fortune from the rainbow pot
If I spin a wheel
Spelling out a deal
Only for a job White would steal
From me or little Jennifer Beal
Message they both wanted ad dressing
A true lesson
Defining all this
What we do when our name is Miss
Wanting a kiss
And loved
Getting hugged by an angel above
Who let out a big howl
When we allow
Our character to die
On screen stating, “Why!”
Win lose or draw
Spending the day down at the mall
Using the credit card
Dreaming meeting him at the department store bar
Just sitting there
Looking for a flirty flair
With an additional scare
Traveling through the high school candy land years
Committed to the catalog picture fashion sold at Sears
Affording the six-pack beer
Acting like adolescents on a school bus
Having trust
Realizing it’s a must
Wiping the dust
Shining the winning bust
Showcasing my modeling smile
On file
In the eight and half by eleven stack
Ready for the killer’s attack
A nice buck earned
Peacefully resting in the ashes urn
All to getting a lucky role turn
