Mother’s Day Roses
To my mam Elsie Hurst. Happy Mother’s Day in heaven

Mother’s Day Roses
Mother’s Day arrives again, so quiet at my door,
A chair sits waiting in the light, as it has done before.
Your voice is gone from morning air, your steps no longer near,
Yet in the hush of this small room, I feel that you are here.
Upon the table stands a vase, with roses soft and bright,
Pink like tender memories, yellow full of light.
Their petals lean toward the sun, as if they understand,
They bloom today in silence, placed there by my hand.
Pink roses speak of gentleness, the kindness that you gave,
Of lullabies and quiet care, the comfort that would save.
Yellow roses glow like days when laughter filled the air,
The golden warmth of love you showed, beyond all dark despair.
But heaven holds you far away, beyond the clouds so wide,
And I must stand on earth below, with tears I cannot hide.
Still every rose within that vase becomes a tender sign,
That love once given by a mum will outlive space and time.
So on this Mother’s Day I whisper softly to the sky,
I send these coloured roses where the angels pass you by.
And maybe in God’s garden bright, among the lilies fair,
You will see my pink and yellow blooms, and know I placed them there.
For though the world has changed so much since heaven called your name,
A daughter’s love remains the same, a steady glowing flame.
And every year these roses stand, both sorrowful and true,
A quiet Mother’s Day bouquet, sent up in love to you.
