Mother

The last favor

By Haley SilveyPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

hold me, mother

just until I learn to walk

speak to me with old words

let me forget it all

I don't want to know

let me hear the song you sang for me, mother

long ago

wrap me up and tuck me away

I'll lay there with you

leave a thought for me, mother

but have space for what you need

I'm growing older tomorrow

and when they come to take me

just tell them I've gone far

they'll remember me for a moment

and then I'll slip away.
