Eyes snap open to the black void of a day yet to begin

The beeping alarm gives way to endless pings, notifications’ steady din

The scent of coffee grounds bitter and bracing in a freshly opened tin

Bacon and eggs’ salty taste dulled by days of the same meal again and again

Monotony’s icy cold grip on me suffocates like walls closing in
