More Than Polite

I Think I Need A Dr

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

I don’t want to be a victim

in a scenario I created

Always bending to the system

Because everything around me is related

Planning the future in advance

So that I don’t get in the way

In every single circumstance

My anxiety is on display

What I thought was being polite

Turns out, comes from a darker place

Politeness is my night light

So I’m always saving face

If I can keep myself in check

Then I am never out of order

I am always sticking out my neck

A full on supporter of my disorder

So, if you see me struggling

Go on and smile, then walk away

I’m simply working through pretending

That everything will be okay

The lines....I’m simply working through pretending....is close to my heart.

  • Not to completely echo your comment on my last poem… But this is all to too familiar! You had me at those opening lines ♥️
