What makes a holiday special?

I was wandering through the streets, towards the bay,

thinking about the work that greeted me when I woke up each day.

People beside me were rushing to work in a great hurry,

while I was in a pensive mood- my mind full of worry.

I was tired and weary from each day’s work and school;

wanting a break to give time for letting my mind to cool.

I wished for all the work to disappear from the face of Earth;

wanting a continuous stretch of holidays from birth.

My wish was granted soon, with the arrival of coronavirus;

the untimely close of school and from my hand, the absence of a stylus.

I felt free and happy for the first few days,

but soon I was bored and felt that nothing was exciting about a holiday.

That was when I asked myself as I walked through the hallway,

“What makes special a holiday?”

I realised that it is, of course, the work I do,

without which each day would not feel any better than the rest of which do.

Working is what makes a holiday so special,

it makes us look forward to the enjoyment at its arrival.

And hence, I realised the importance of work,

and how it gives a holiday its own little quirk.
