Monochrome Rainbows
teaching makes a difference.

They’re magical because they
still see the world in color.
Rainbows still exist
and white unicorns
are how they get
from Point A to
Point B.
Money’s just silly paper
used to buy snacks
and if they hide
behind the brown, oak tree
long enough they’ll disappear
and become gnomes.
I wish I knew the moment
our eyes shifted
and saw only monochrome.
Maybe we would’ve held on longer to
our mother’s green skirts used as magic carpet rides
or colored further outside the lines because our
creativity had no bounds.
It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.
But their sticky hands remind
us to sprinkle some fairy dust.
