Momma Taught Me

Be a Man

By William MoorePublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Momma taught me how to be a man

How to stick around and make a stand

How to be a gentleman

To stand for righteousness

And how to clean up my own mess

To provide for my family

She taught so much to me

Taught me how to cook a meal

Taught me how to lift steel

Body building was a thing

Was nice to be fit in the spring

Taught me to be a family and play

Taught me not to listen to what doctors say

A second opinion was coming our way

Even after the cancer we did pray

For a sibling to come my way

They said she was sterile and couldn’t have a baby

Then down the road came a little lady

That is still my sister today

A little lady name Mary

She taught me to be a father that doesn’t run away

Still today I’m a dad that stays

With his kids and wife

Mom taught me how to have a good life

Not wrapped around money

The sweetest things in life come like honey

Oozing out the jar

From near and from far

Like the universe works with you

So don’t fret about the blues

Just work hard and you’ll get your dues

Be a family man

Hold little hands

Go to live bands

Never sit, always take a stand

For what you believe in

There’s not enough words for what my mom taught me

But I know this, she taught me to be me

No matter the haters that get in the way

Or the family that don’t know what to say

Or how to act around you

As long as your true to you

And all that cross your path

Honesty always tends to last

I’m thankful for my mother

She taught me like no other
