Momma handed me a juice bottle of clearest gray.
I remember the distant thought of a yesteryear far away.
On a red sofa I sucked my orange juice where I had been laid.
Her yellow hands of love were nearby that day.
She showed me how to lean on her when my baby feet weren’t strong.
Momma let me know about the big bright hot stove that on it my fingers
don’t belong. Mom showed me how to tie my blue tennis shoes and how to use the yellow
phone. She showed me love through the many colors of pink, yellow, and red chalk
hopscotch lines, tan band-aids, brown fuzzy teddy bears, peanut butter and
grape jelly sandwiches, balls, good smelling baby dolls, crayons bright
plain, books, and red handled jump ropes in my little
years, and she made a house a home.
