Sweet Dreams

I woke up in that dream again, last night

Where I was wandering down memory lane

The scenery was set in black and white

And everyone I saw there, knew my name

Familiar faces popped up everywhere

And then, I ran into yours

Your smile nearly had me walking on air

And the time flew by, like they were stars

I didn't waste time second guessing

Like I said, I had been here before

I stepped back in, like no time was missing

Like I'd never wandered from our front door

I hugged your neck, like a necktie on Sunday

I kissed mom like she'd ordered me to

I belly laughed at your jokes that weren't funny

I did everything like we used to do

I sat and listened to old stories that once bored me

Absorbed each moment like I was a sponge

I mimicked you laugh, slapped my hand on my knee

Any bad blood, was quickly expunged

I felt the urge of the dream, as it was ending

I fought hard to stay asleep on my bed

I begged god to just let me keep dreaming

Took my pillow and covered my head

But I knew that there was no denying

As the sun made its way through the blinds

I wiped my eyes from the tears I'd been crying

Anxious to travel in my dreams one more time

So, I've prepared myself for the next journey

Written notes, and packed a bag by the bed

Brushed my teeth and went to bed kinda early

In case I choose to stay there instead

Great job. I have had dreams like this myself and I did not want to wake up.
