I’m mixed
That’s what I’ve always told them
When they asked me
“What are you?”
•
Good question
What am I
I’m black , I’m white
Depending on what you needed me to be at the time
I can rhyme
I can
Blend in
I’m blended.
•
When they’d ask me how I am
I’d tell them that I’m splendid
I was lying
I was blue
I had the blues
But on the outside
I was full of color
I was
Lost.
•
Sometimes that happens when you wonder
Sometimes that happens when your Dad is Black
Stereotypical
He never really had your back,
And you have a white mother.
•
A white mother
Who loved me
Without condition
Whose white parents loved Her,
And me without condition
Who didn’t care if I was purple ,
Green,
Blue,
Or yellow
They’d love me regardless
Like I loved going camping with my grandpa and roasting marshmallows
Making sure they were a perfect golden brown.
•
My perfectly imperfect small town
Where most loved me, but some didn’t love the brown in me
Where they’d ask me what I am
But didn’t know
That offends me
Eventually I’d tell them
I’m bi racial.
•
I’m bi racial
Yeah that sounds about right
I’m half black I’m half white,
But then again I was still blue
I was still me,
But didn’t know what that was
I was High
Yellow.
•
Still Green though.
Needed to be
All up in the scene though.
No more singing Aerosmith
I Didn’t want to miss a thing though
No more singing Billy ray Cyrus with my grandpa
I was
To Cool
I was
Still blue.
•
No more playing ninja turtles I was smoking green and purple
Sniffing white while trying to fight the fact that I was hurting
Sometimes
I’d want to close the curtains
Call it a rap
•
I’m a rapper
Still trying to blend in
I’m an actor
Now I’m the one offending
•
I’m in prison
And On the first day
Someone asks me
“What are you?”
I thought about it,
Then replied
I’m Human.
