Missing In Her Heart

A poem inspired by a Johnny Cash song

By Rasma RaistersPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

As long as she kept missing him,

being he was her one true love,

as long as his shadow seemed to be walking by her side,

a new love she couldn’t find.

As long as the words of love,

kept sounding in her ear,

the love songs still played,

no one new could step into her life.

The days so lonely,

the nights neverending –

facing each sunrise with bleary eyes.

As long as it felt,

that their love was just yesterday,

nothing else would fall into place,

there was no way,

out of this nightmare.

He was still there and everywhere,

his smile reflected in the sun,

his words upon the wind

and his touch still seemed to embrace her.

As long as these things

and so much more,

kept her trapped inside her mind,

her heart still beating for a love,

that was long gone,

never coming back again –

trapped with nowhere to turn.

Soon the days,

melted into the nights,

thoughts so troubled,

wishing he would come back –

even if for just a while.

Then when it all seemed,

so very hopeless,

one sunny day,

he was there with a bright smile,

caught her in a great hug –

swore to never leave her side.

So some love stories,

have happy endings,

a love that never dies,

most important to remember –

never give up on your dreams.
