A sonnet for Alan Turing

A bite from a red apple cyanide,

Reduced to a grey corporate logo,

But who remembers the chemicals, or

the castration of humiliation.

Now we march in the present; celebrate.

Now we sweep up the glitter; remember.

In moving away from dark history;

Bear witness! as we walk in his future.

Standing on the shoulders of those who drowned,

In an ocean of ignorance and blame.

The dark shadow behind the mirror ball,

A chain of generational trauma,

Altering the DNA of our thoughts.

We grieve, we learn, walking in his future.
