Mint grows on the banks of the Sacramento River.

Constricted by the tightening fingers of a devilish man,

a woman says goodbye to her child again.

-

Her grandmother tells her,

be careful when you tiptoe on the shores of uncertainty,

the waves still touch your toes.

Words that still didn’t empower.

-

The boy took whiskey from an unlocked cabinet.

he sees nothing but water.

Alone he sits on the banks while watercolor clouds

paint the sky in fire.

-

A man upriver packs a suitcase, then heves it into the river.

It floats by the boy.

Leaning over the water he tries to pick it up.

The woman cries.

-

The river water fills the empty whisky bottle,

clutched in the young boy's hand.

Mint grows on the banks of the Sacramento River.
