The kettle sat
Long forgotten
On the stove,
Grime sitting on
Once beautiful chrome,
A lone scream
Echoing down empty hall
Shattering windows
As it waited to be lifted
From the fire-
Dust particles danced
To the music created,
The song that turned
The lone man mad
And sent him running
For a life in the woods,
Hidden in the mountains
Mending broken parts
Among the flowers
And the wandering deer,
Listening to birdsong
To hide the drone
Of the inner broken pieces,
The shattered soul
That belonged to the crying
Yearning kettle,
The building decayed
As his innards healed,
Growing yet again
From a destruction he knew,
But scars remained,
His mind
The nighttime haunt
Of demons best unaddressed-
The kettle’s scream died
Replaced by the roaring fire
That licked the curtains
Distorting window to outside world,
Crumbling boards to earth,
Allowing vines to sweep in,
And strangle the mess left behind,
Needles falling from tall tree
To cover the crime scene
The man had created
When his mind spun
And became too much
For him to hold.
