Burning Party Lines

Here we go again

By Katrina ThornleyPublished about a year ago 1 min read
Top Story - August 2024

We debated the path

Staring endlessly

Between the options presented,

Holding breath

Lest we cast a wind

In the wrong direction

And bring forth a future

We feared-

Both paths presented

Lined with briars

And rutted with holes,

Darkness swarms,

A storm on the horizon-

Paths begin separate

But merge as one beyond corner-

Stealing from those following

Their hope and happiness

Creating a nation of nothing-

Turning meager belongings

To empty pockets

And starved stomachs,

Ripping roofs off homes

And casting gasoline upon crops

Setting fire to the hard work done-

Erasing what once was

To create what benefits only them-

Don’t be fooled,

Choose the freedom you chased.

Excellent poem. Yes, but definitely one path is much much worse than the other path. I will be voting for democracy.
