Midrealm - Crown Tournament

Song of the Crown

By Heather PattonPublished about a year ago 2 min read

I sing the gathering of warriors,

The men and women of the Midrealm,

Assembled on this field of history and dreams,

Where honor walks beside them, where rattan speaks loud.

Look!

The banners unfurl, bold colors like the morning sky,

Rippling in the hands of the herald, the wind their guide,

And here they come, the combatants, the consorts,

The great-hearted, the strong-limbed, the hopeful,

Marching across the open earth with heads high,

with blood hot,

For the Crown, for the realm, for love.

I see you, bearers of the sword, the spear, the axe,

I know you, standing firm with shield and helm.

I see the glint of polished mail, the sturdy hauberk,

And feel the ground tremble with your steps.

And the consorts!

They stand, their eyes bright as the sun upon gold,

Watching with hearts bound in their warriors’ arms.

They are the inspirations of their champions,

And their love, a quiet fire, burns in the hearts of these fighters.

Oh, the clash of weapons!

The swords like lightning, the shields like thunder.

sword and spear whistle and hum,

Striking for glory, for the crown,

For the stories yet untold in the grass of this arena.

See them now, those two who remain—

One last fight, one last stand,

The others fallen, their hopes but a breath in the wind.

The victor waits for his moment, the rattan in his hand,

And the final test of wills begins.

The blow comes quick, a sharp arc in the sun,

Dual blades rise—clashing, blocking—

The air thick with the weight of the moment,

The arena reduced to a single point, a single strike.

A step, a swing, a breath held by all,

Then a neck slash finds its mark—

Over in a blink, the lineage complete..

In that moment—

The victor stands ‘neith a clear sky,

The cry of triumph echoes,

His consort rushes forward, arms open,

And the Midrealm roars its joy.

The new Prince, crowned by his sweat and blood,

His sword now a scepter of the realm.

And I, I who watched from the edges,

Sing of this day, of these champions,

Of the courage that shone brighter than steel.

For this is the song of the Crown,

Of those who dared and loved and fought,

And through their strength, the kingdom shall rise,

As the banners fly again, high above the Midrealm.
