Midnight Run
You never needed the open field to feel free,
freedom lived inside the way you held yourself,
head high, body tense,
ready to move even when standing still.
The dark followed you like an old friend,
not something to fear,
just a place where truth didn’t echo back lies,
where nothing demanded explanations.
I felt it when you passed by,
that pull in the chest that tightens without warning,
knowing that some souls do not belong to fences,
no matter how wide the gate is left open.
You ran once without moving an inch,
I understood then how escape really works,
how the mind leaves long before the body dares,
how the heart keeps count of every attempt.
There was power in your quiet,
The way you refused to perform or soften yourself,
you existed as you were, enough to unsettle the world.
When you finally turned away,
leaving dust and silence behind you,
I stayed where I was,
it’s easy to remain standing while living in the past.

I've been writing poetry since the age of fourteen. With pen in hand, I wander through realms unseen. The pen holds power; ink reveals hidden thoughts. A poet may speak truth or weave a tale. You decide. Let pen and ink capture your mind❤️
