Midnight Phantoms

Where Grief Dances with the Damned

In the shadows of the mind's abyss,

where phantoms dance on brittle dreams,

the night unfurls its tattered wings,

wrapping the world in a shroud of longing.

Ghostly figures loom,

their faces a tapestry of despair,

speaking of secrets lost to time,

as the heart beats against a stifling void,

desire etched in bloodred nightmares.

Beneath the moon's pallid gaze,

the heart, a weary bird in a cage of thorns,

flutters in despair, seeking solace,

but finds only the jagged laughter of the damned.

Moments linger like fading shadows,

filling the hollow chambers within,

where grief and sorrow weave a chilling lullaby,

and every glance behind reveals

the specters of those who would not let go.

As midnight swells and grips,

each breath a duel with loneliness,

the dance resumes a dirge for the lost,

a fate entwined with darkness,

a symphony of clashing voids,

beneath the burden of unbound memories.

Well-wrought! I thought of this line from the Tori Amos song "Crucify": "You're just an empty cage, girl, if you kill the bird."
