Merriam

In the dark hallway

By Rebecca RedPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

Merriam was a girl, who’s lips were stained bright red;

She had blue eyes, and long blonde hair that cascaded from her head;

Each night she would come home to darkness all around;

She’d climb the stairs to her apartment without making a sound;

Because in the depths of fall, when the nights were drawing in;

It would watch her from the shadows, with blood dripping down its chin;

Merriam could sense it, each time she walked the hall;

She could feel it right behind her, making her skin crawl;

It was a creature, and it was centuries old;

With long sharp teeth, sunken eyes, and skin icy cold;

With its long bony hand, it reached to touch her skin;

And in one smooth motion grabbed her, sinking its teeth deep within;

Not too long after, a neighbour was coming home;

He saw Merriam in the dark hallway, but she was not alone;

The creature was stood there, its lips stained blood red;

In its hand was long blonde hair, still cascading from her head.
