Memories
The actual copy of the first book I remember ever having read to me

The book smelled like memories
Of hushed-low voices
And warm embraces
Of rustling pages
And soft imaginings
The book smelled like memories
Of blankets soft
And comforts legion
Of woodsmoke
And of yellowed pages
The book smelled like memories
Gentle hands run through hair
Voices change from reader to reader
Love and comfort softly cover
Me in joy and peace
The book smelled like memories
Ensconced in bed, and eyes wide
Shocked at Thorin's pride
Tucked away in cabin cozy
Fearful when Bilbo around the trolls is nosy
Sitting in the sun at camp,
Thankful it is safe from damp
The book smelled like memories
Of grand parents' houses
And joyful greetings
Of fireplaces
And parents' voices
Beyond the smell of ink and paper
Past the lingering scent of labour
Buried in the yellow pages
Lies the greatest gift in ages
The book smelled like memories
Of hushed-low voices
And warm embraces
Of rustling pages
And soft imaginings
The book smelled like memories

OMG.... the nostalgic feeling that leaks off this poem is breath taking!! Beautifully captured and filled with so much love!! Congrats on Top Story Alex, it's sooooo well deserved!!
💗😊
This is so tender and evocative. You captured how books don’t just tell stories — they become memories. Beautifully done.
Back to say congratulations on your Top Story! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊
One of the first non childrens books I read to my children as well. My son to this day is a LOTR fan. My daughter may have been to young, she still liked Judy BLoom. Congratulations
Rolling back around to say congrats on a well deserved Top Story, Mr McEvoy!
The Hobbit! What a lovely poem and memories.
Thank you for another urging to give both LOTR and the hobbit a reread
You capture that timeless feel when a good book instantly transports you back. "Of woodsmoke And of yellowed pages"- great line. I love the cover of this particular version, especially with the Elvish along the top. Hard to beat The Hobbit! Nicely done Alexander😊
Your words stir the heart like a familiar scent from the past — soft, nostalgic, and quietly aching. 'Memories' beautifully captures how the past never truly leaves us; it lingers in fragments, in feelings, in shadows. A touching and tender piece.🍁🕰️🖋️
You really bring the feeling of memory to life in a gentle, loving way. Some books don’t just tell stories, they become our memories.✨
This was so nostalgia and lovely! Such a wonderful poem!
A wonderful trip through your memories
Alexander, this was stunning. Sublime and stunning and the perfect ode to an important book. In terms of its magnitude and impact. That is. So, well done!
