Memories That Stay After Goodbye
Your Funeral Was Not The End For Me
Words as sweet as honey
Smooth as honey
As it slides down
the back of your throat
Fingertips sliding across
The glossy surface
Of the coffin
Bittersweet, it had been
To taste your lies
I should have known
With how sweet
And silky those words
Slid through me
Like a hot knife
Sliding through butter
Like that same knife
Sliding straight into the very heart
That used to beat
Like hummingbird wings
But now, I just remember
The feel of the coffin
As it closed
The feel of it sliding into place
Just so easily
Like familiar lovemaking
Between old lovers
As you slide
into the very heart of me
Slicing so quickly and deeply
Like we were made
For one another
I believed every one of your words
That you'd always be there
That you'd be the feel of
Velvet embracing me
But you're not here anymore
And memories I have
Are struggling to stay
They are falling away
Like water eroding
Jagged rocks
And soon only
the smoothness
Will remain
Over memories you promised
Never to leave behind
But you're a grave in my heart
I bring flowers to in the name
Of your memory
Sometimes, I touch the surface of your gravestone
Drag my fingertips over it
Like I did to your coffin
How smooth it felt against my skin
No, it's not as easy to say goodbye
