City Lights at Night (Photo by Jacqueline Boutros)
Somewhere
In the background
Through the dark blue sky
25 fireflies
Specs of golden yellow light
Gliding into a violent moonlight
Into my sight
In my right ear
My right eye
My left eye
Double vision
And I'm left blind
Gone during the day
They blend into the pale blue sky
Settling in the west
Below the eastern shoreline
The blood orange moonshine
Murky liquids reflecting grey skies
Blue grey mornings
Following forgotten nights
Pitch black coffee
Brown toast
And egg whites
Freezing
Burning
My refrigerator’s churning
Out ice
Nice
For orange juice
And fried rice
She is lovely
Isn’t she
She kisses me on the cheek
When I come back
She’ll be here
When I leave
She’ll be here
